York Suburban Takes Winter Sports Season by Storm
With the winter sport season in full swing for all six of York Suburban’s varsity teams, there’s a lot to know about each team. Here’s the roundup:
Girls Basketball (8-2, 2-0)Following the past three years of district championship appearances and back to back wins in 2024 and 2025, the girls basketball team set a high standard of excellence for York Suburban sports. This year is no different, as the Trojans are currently 8-2, sitting at third place in the district power rankings. Their starting lineup of Natalie Homisak, Jordyn Williams, Julia Gerber, Brynn Barley and Amaya Pope have all filled their roles against competitive competition, with a mix of inside finishers, strong shooters and defensive forces. At halfway through the season, the next ten games are country opponents who the girls have proven to be able to dominate, so keep an eye out for county, district, and state playoff births in February.

Boys Basketball (7-4, 1-1)
At eighth place in the district, the boys basketball team has struggled to keep up with strong 5A opponents, notably falling to West York and Spring Grove in a stretch of six away games. However, all hope is not lost for the team, with the remainder of the season competing against the easier YAIAA competition. With three seniors leading the team with extensive playoff experience in Silas Leonard, Trent Weinstein, and Kane Stryhn, the Trojans will need to leverage their over 12 point-per-game scorers to find success in the second half of the season.

Boys Wrestling (2-0, 7-1)
Currently at the top of Division II standings, the boys wrestling team has had a standout season, with senior Gehret Gentzyel achieving 60 pins, the most in York Suburban history. Jasper Kling and Zack Ierely have also had standout performances, earning multiple top five positions. Most recently, Gehret Gentzyel and Jasper Kling placed second in the county tournament, while Zack Ierely placed 4th. The boys have five more duals matches against county opponents, with county, district, and state playoffs in February.
Girls Wrestling (0-3)
While the girls wrestlers are defeated through the first half of their second PIAA sanctioned season, three girls medaled at the YAIAA tournament: Dayton Higgings (2nd), Olivia Chapman (3rd), and Brooke Winters (3rd). With four more matches on the schedule, the girls look for more individuals wins, hoping for a team win to round out the season.
Boys (1-1, 0-0) & Girls (1-1, 0-0) Swimming
Through the first 2 months of the season, York Suburban’s swim teams have only competed in two meets, both out of division. Both teams beat the Central York and fell to Dallastown, with six more scheduled meets. Similarly to last year, the team does not have a home pool after the High School’s pool developed a leak. Additionally, the girls team only has seven swimmers, adding to the adversity faced by the teams.
